IN MUNCHEN…THEY MAY HAVE A HOFBRAUHAUS (but in DC…we have a White House Micro-brewery)
Who says the American entrepreneurial spirit is dead?
What other nation in the world has its head of state privately honing his skills as a micro-brewer…in his spare time? Yeah, in Munchen they may have a hofbrauhaus, but in DC…we have a White House micro-brewery!
And it seems that our President is getting pretty good at it, producing some reportedly decent pale ale, perhaps even reaching for an acceptable Pilsener. Bravo, Mr. President! I’m glad to see you’re planning ahead for when you are no longer in office. Having a skilled craft to fall back on once you’re back out on the “street” with the rest of us should serve you well. In fact, you just might have yourself the most exclusive and perfect brand label to market your product, one that no one else will be able to duplicate. Picture it – White House Pale Ale – (when the time comes to design that label, let me know, I have a hotshot young designer available up in New York, who’s work will blow the market’s socks off!).
While some of the more straight-laced folks might sniff at such a thing as not being a proper endeavor for a serving president to engage in, it certainly has a hell of lot more class than fooling around with interns, or reportedly skinny dipping in the White House with a Hollywood actress, as some past incumbents have done.
Well, all our presidents have had their pet hobbies….gardening…yachting….big game hunting…inventing things…making wine, etc..And many of them achieved some level of success with these. And while having a micro-brewery right in the White House might smack of the good old days of –Speakeasies – at least this activity is producing something that could be useful. Like giving a less formal and “down home” touch to any scheduled state dinners.
My only cavil about President Obama’s enterprise, and it’s a minor one, is that he should keep his brewing recipe to himself for the time being. It would have greater value after he leaves office. No sense letting every Tom, Dick, and Joe-SixPack, get a head start on him. Besides, you never know how these election deals might turn out.
Meanwhile, look out, Budweiser, look out Coors….a White House Pale Ale…may be coming around the corner to rock your world.
