HURRICANE SANDY
(…upstaging the hot air and rhetoric of political windbags)
Late season hurricanes, like Sandy, are almost always either very destructive…or just a mild annoyance for a few days. Sandy, however, appears poised to become a very destructive one, and the aftermath of its effects will probably last for several weeks. Sandy is definitely not a nice lady.
But then it’s also not often that this kind of hurricane barrels in with perfect timing to upstage the hot air, and rhetoric of political windbags, as these head for the home stretch after a long and less than engaging campaign season. Compared to that, even a nasty hurricane like this one is almost a blessed relief.
Well, let’s hope that Sandy does a minimum of damage as she roars along our eastern shores, before veering off to dissipate herself into the Atlantic’s northern climes. If that’s all she does, besides disrupting a number of our politicos’ closing song and dance routines, Sandy, will have been one of those rare hurricanes with the benign sidebar effect of shutting down the noise pollution of their political blather (although the price she’s charging for doing so is kinda high…and rough).
Still, despite all that…we could show our appreciation for that aspect of her…by getting out and vote in droves for anyone other than a Democrat or Republican. Such a voters’ –hurricane – just might knock all that partisan clap-trap right out of both of them…and maybe force them to focus on doing what’s best for fixing our country…instead of what’s of political benefit for themselves.
If it takes a hurricane to make that happen…let’s give Sandy…three cheers! (okay, okay…so maybe we can add a few Bronx kinds for the rest of her behavior).
