NO…VIRGINIA…IT’S NOT A KODAK MOMENT…
(…in plain old Army slang…it’s one of those…FUBAR… ones instead)

This whole pathetic fandango concerning the “Affordable Care Act” keeps on keeping on. It truly is pathetic when a major piece of legislation, supposedly intended to be for the good of millions of Americans, has become a fiasco in its implementation, and requires the President to publicly apologize for it all. Nor do any of our politicos from either party shine any better in this affair either.

The primary obligation of government is to – function – and to do so as reasonably efficiently and economically as possible while doing so. As things stand right now with this matter…none of that seems to have been the guiding principle for this legislation. What it will end up actually costing us taxpayers to get the damned thing fixed and back on track… is anyone’s guess.  So all that can be said about it is…no, Virginia, it’s not a Kodak moment. In plain old Army slang…it’s one of those…FUBAR… ones instead.

Sadly, it reminds us of that former –Mustang Ranch – deal in Nevada, some years ago. As we may recall, after some thirty years of profitably operating that kind of “enterprise” (legal in Nevada), the owner of it found himself crosswise with the IRS for some kind of tax delinquency. The upshot of his settlement agreement with the IRS was a somewhat odd-ball deal whereby the government (vice – IRS) would take over the operation of the enterprise until it had produced enough to settle his account with the IRS. It made headlines at the time – Government To Run Brothel To Settle Tax Debt – or some such.

Alas, within three months of taking over the operation of that enterprise, the government’s ineptitudes ran what had been a long running and profitable one into…bankruptcy!

Which raises a disturbing question here: If the government couldn’t operate a well established whorehouse at a profit, instead of running it into bankruptcy, why should any of us have confidence that it can now fix what needs fixing, with something as complex as Obamacare?

Something to ponder…indeed.
