HIP HIP HOOORAY….FOR RAVES!
(but what about those mornings after?)

Whether autocratic, democratic, or anywhere in between, all governments around the world must now be pondering the deeper import and any unintended consequences that may come from the recent events in Tunisia and Egypt.

People power, enhanced by today’s internet technologies, much like those popular rave events, can now be organized and mobilized in a flash. So, henceforth, that fact must become a critical factor of consideration for any politicians seeking public office, and how they must govern, once having assumed such powers of office. While their successes may be little noted or commented upon, any failures (either private or public) can now be easily magnified beyond limits of any context and become the cause for mass insurrection against them.

All of which raises a serious question: At what point does legitimate expression of popular discontent and opposition become….mob rule? After all, whether it’s tyranny by autocrats, or tyranny of mobs….it’s still….tyranny.

This calls for real food for thought because, let’s not forget how easily slick demagoguery can stir up people’s emotions, and transform them into a stampede of lemmings happily racing right off a cliff of false assumptions, tossing the principle of balance in all things right on its head, leaving anarchic law to rule the day.

In short, we may cheer and shout hip hip hooray for such raves, but, what about those mornings after?
