THEY’VE DUMPED…LE TRUMP…
(by pandering to a demographic claque yowling about his dumbass campaign comments…)
Free speech and the right to hold even wrong-headed views about anything…is no longer possible here in America. This is especially true for anyone attempting to run for public office.
Anyone speaking their mind or offering a politically incorrect viewpoint is bound to be quickly hammered for being “offensive” to someone, somewhere, for doing so. In fact, these days, thanks to the advent of social-media means of communicating, the odds are someone will instantaneously take offense about almost anything…just to show the rest of the world how “offended” they are.
The sad thing about such reactions is that these are based upon the totally un-American concept of…political correctness. An alien concept, imported from less than open and civil societies where neither free speech nor the right to voice an opinion (no matter how disgusting) is tolerated. Even worse, much like that noxious kudzu plant, it has spread its pernicious effects into every aspect of our political process, and in ways that can only further erode the unity of whatever is left of our supposed home of the brave and land of the free.
We do not subscribe to Mr. Trump’s perspective about Latinos. His comments about them were obviously just a deliberate way to pander to demographic elements having extreme views about immigration reform. We use the word “pander” because that’s how our political class has come to operate because of that alien political correctness insanity. Everything they say or do while campaigning for office is driven by…how to influence a given demographic of the voters in their favor…or…how to avoid offending that demographic. Never mind about focusing on critical issues of importance for the whole country. Thus, at the slightest indication that a given demographic is unhappy about something…our career politicos will jump through hoops and do all sorts of contortions…to appease them (even if it isn’t justified). So…pandering…is the proper term to use.
Of course this is not just limited to the political community. NBC’s hasty chicken-livered knee- jerk reaction when they dumped…le Trump… was –pandering- to the clamor of a demographic claque yowling about his dumbass campaign remarks, showing that the same approach is also alive and well in the business community. And the same thing occurred with Apple, Walmart, Amazon, and a number of others, on the issue of the Confederate flag. All, just pandering…to the clamor of specific demographics…not for reasons of principle… but only to curry favor and retain their following.
We probably offend someone about something every day of the week, more often than not unknowingly, and, conversely, are probably just as often offended ourselves about someone or something. In our view, however, the best way to deal with any of that, is to simply turn away and refuse to listen to whatever may be offensive… not by getting mad…but just getting even by either voting with our feet…or our pocketbooks… to return the favor.
Well, as we’ve often mentioned since we began producing these e-columns of ours, our guiding principle when voicing our views has been to follow the advice of that Roman philosopher emperor, Marcus Aurelius: “If it is good to say or do something; then, it is better to be criticized, for having said or done it.”
Apparently we Americans have forgotten how that… is the essence of “free speech.”
