A LATTER-DAY MTV GENERATION…
(…rapidly becoming IPhone junkies)

Technology has finally managed to hybridize a communication system with entertainment content That is, thanks to the ubiquitous IPhone’s capabilities, anyone with one of those can now not only “communicate” with anyone else, almost anywhere else on Earth, but also, receive and view any kind of live streaming entertainment content, be it from film, television, or any other source that can be transmuted into a digital format, thus making that hand-held instrument a personal mobile audio-visual companion for any hour of the day or night.

The upshot of all that is we’re now seeing the emergence of a latter-day MTV generation… rapidly becoming IPhone junkies…with eyes perpetually glued to the palm of their hands and ears continually plugged into headsets of one kind or another…wandering blissfully about…completely oblivious to anything else that surrounds them.

We can’t help but speculate how that kind of absolute immersion in an amorphous world of external imaging and sound might ultimately affect both the mental acuity and cognitive capacity of those who, once exposed to it, seem to develop the same kinds of addictive conditions as found with other kinds of “junkies”, and, if these would have the same kind of withdrawal symptoms…if they found themselves in a “cold turkey” situation without their IPhone companion.

What kind of brave-new-world are we creating here?
