THE GROWING PRESENCE OF A QUIET VOICE…
(…offering the alternative of pragmatic common sense)

Behind all that noisy self-promoting hoopla we hear from all those other candidates for president, from both parties, there is the growing presence of a quiet voice…offering the alternative of pragmatic common sense instead.

Whether that voice will be heard and listened to by we the tax-paying voters next November is hard to say, because both we, and the media, seem more impressed by all that noisy self-promoting hoopla’s entertainment value than anything else.

It’s as if we’ve deliberately turned off our brains from serious thought, and tuned out to only listen to the lyrics of discontent from that old Eddy Arnold song…make the world go away…get it off of my shoulders…say the things you used to say (or what we want to hear)…and make the world…go away, etc..

But the world won’t go away, and whatever discontents we may have with the way things are, none of those other loud-mouthed flim-flam promises that can’t and won’t be kept, will fix what needs fixing for us. So perhaps it’s time we got off such an unrealistic binge and fixation with “celebrity” clatter and glitter, and also reject those other florid expressions of intent trying so desperately to stampede us in possibly the wrong direction…and try to seriously re-engage the clutches of our minds which drive our capacities for critical thinking.

Maybe then we’ll be better able to hear that lone voice out there for pragmatic common sense, and realize that it’s the only one worth listening to…even if it’s not quite offering what we want to hear…or need.

Governor Kasich of Ohio seems to be that lone voice. One which may yet resonate more strongly in the end with all of us tax-paying voters who still believe in our country’s true values of pragmatic common sense over ideological blather, and/or more expanded schemes to further pick our pockets of what little “spare change” we still have left to us.

The big question is…do we still believe in pragmatic common sense?
