[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]AND THE WAY WE WERE BACK THEN…
(…is still the way we are today…)
Here’s another reminder how things still seem to be economically uncertain for us all, and why we’re all so antsy about and cranky with…the “establishment.”
This annex highlights what we thought about it all at the time. It’s still valid today.

NON-PROFIT WORLDS OF GOVERNMENT
(…don’t worry…be happy…they’ll take care of everything…)
From the plush and porky hallways of Congress, where the idea that a billion here, a billion there, eventually begins to turn into real money, to State Houses, groaning and moaning for more handouts from Washington, all the way down to City Halls and their flim-flam bedgeteers, a Greek Chorus of financial woes waft across the land…crying about deficits here, deficits there, deficits everywhere.
None of that should surprise any of us. After all, Federal, State, and Local authorities have had years of practice evolving themselves into virtually non-profit entities, and convincing themselves that…deficits…are just a normal condition for that genre.
Meanwhile, they merrily keep on skimming more and more out of our pockets to justify their spending on whatever causes du jour might strike their fancies (not to mention our own). All of which contradicts that old joke…if government ran it…crime wouldn’t pay. Today, however, government is running it, and, it’s paying handsomely besides. That is, by the gimmick of Treasury IOU’s, State Bond issues, and City Hall Municipals, of one kind or another. Simply put, they’re trading on their supposed credit ratings (full faith and credit of…as they say), to finance their spendthrift ways. Al Capone and Lucky Luciano couldn’t do it any better! Meanwhile, we working stiffs are left with just nickels and dimes to take care of the cost of living, mortgages, medical needs, college, and other essentials, while our own credit ratings crash and burn all over the place.
Well, come election time let’s keep this in mind…if we’re going to end up working for peanuts…we might as well vote for…SNOOPY!
