THE GOP CONVENTION…A TIGHTLY ORCHESTRATED MASQUERADE…
(…to conceal the inadequacies of its choice)

Political conventions are always like a three ring circus, with lots of hoopla and firebrand type speech-making to stir up the party faithful, and otherwise attract the attention of all those tax-paying voters at large out there, hoping thereby to induce them to vote for their candidate comes election day. This Republican one was no exception, and next week’s Democrat’s convention will probably be much the same.

The big difference with the Republican show this time was its obviously very tightly orchestrated masquerade by the nominee’s organization. An orchestration aimed at concealing as much as possible his inadequacies as a candidate for President. Instead of the usual two-three day merry-go-round of the delegates going through the motions of several rounds of voting, to build up to a grand finale to finally present the party’s “choice” to the roaring acclaim of all those thousands on the convention floor…the Trump nomination was signed, sealed and delivered on the very first day. Everything else that followed was simply rhetorical exercises to justify how it was done.

The main forces driving that first round nomination came from his immediate family, and the way that was done, left no room to consider any alternatives. In short, it was a slick steamrolling process that brooked no interference of any kind. It’s indicative of what can be expected if a Trump presidency does become a reality next November. His acceptance speech, a 70 minute rant and will-do list, long on what he was against, and short on how he would accomplish all those items on that list, simply underscored those indications.

So the GOP is stuck with its choice of nominee, and we, the tax-paying voters of this country, are now stuck with having to vote for a potential autocrat whose family will apparently be the unelected guiding policy influences for his administration.

That’s not much of prospect for us getting any kind of change that might be better than what we have today.
