E TU…ROGER?
(…as we watch another high profile personality fall from grace…)

It’s always sad to see how those who have achieved a high status of power and wealth, from their hard work and merit, eventually seem to succumb to the corrosive effects such status has upon their character.

The recent scandal concerning Mr. Roger Ails, the head of Fox News, over allegations of his sexual harassment of a number of women within that personal empire of his clearly demonstrates that. Of course, he’s not the first, and probably won’t be the last of such high profile people who’ve been exposed for engaging in such behavior.

Perhaps the arrogance which ultimately derives from having power, and the presumptions which develop from gaining wealth, overcome their sense of moral decorum, particularly when it pertains to knowing when and how to control their urges for sexual gratification of one kind or another. That is, they just seem to develop a modern day manifestation of the medieval world’s …droits du seigneur…syndrome over any female within their orbit.

While we can’t deny that the male of our species is hard-wired to instinctively react at the mere sight of any female’s “attributes”, the evolution of our society’s constraints about such instincts don’t seem to matter much to such individuals. Thus cases like Mr. Ails’ and others of his ilk simply show us how fragile such civilized constraints really are.

But what is most puzzling about these kinds of scandalous breaches of acceptable behavior is why otherwise highly intelligent and experienced people, like Mr. Ails, choose to indulge themselves in such asinine ways.

The only thing we can say about it here is…E Tu, Roger?…as we watch another high profile personality fall from grace.
