TO VOTE OR NOT TO VOTE…THAT IS THE QUESTION…
(and for whom…if you please?)

We hear a lot of grumbling about how terrible our choices are for President in the upcoming election for that office in November. Neither candidate from either party seems to offer much for any of us to be enthused about. Worse yet, neither of them seem to be presenting us with a clear perspective, a reasonable vision, about what needs to be done to fix what needs fixing…so we can all move forward to a better condition than we have now.

Much of that growling about our situation goes beyond just being disgusted with it and is expressed with some rather extreme options to take because of it. One of the more extreme of these being that all fifty states should seriously consider collectively seceding en masse… from our union! Another negative action often heard is to simply not vote at all. In effect boycott the election.

Such a mood about this coming election is not just an undercurrent of frustration but more like a fierce riptide of discontent with everything that constitutes the essence of America. Which raises a worrisome question here: Are we all really so disillusioned, so no longer trusting in our institutions, so no longer confident in ourselves as a people and nation…that we’re ready to throw it all away…without trying to overcome all that?

So if …to vote or not to vote…is the question…and for whom if you please…the answer has to be…yes…even if it means choosing an otherwise unknown choice on our ballots, and there will be other alternative choices on these. Of course this also raises another interesting question here: What if neither of these candidates we so disdain gets enough popular votes to achieve an Electoral College majority? Constitutionally what happens then? Not being an expert or constitutional scholar we don’t know the answer to such a question; but, it certainly wouldn’t be to our benefit.

Imagine the reaction if the leading “democracy” of the world holds an election…and no one comes to it? That would surely be the end of America, and all of those who ever served, fought, bled, and died for it in the past two hundred and forty years did so…in vain.

Lord have mercy!
