SOMETIMES THERE COMES A RIGHT END
(and Bin Laden has been given it)

It took a while, a long while, but the man who created and expanded upon the idea of using religion as a weapon, with terror as its sword, is now dead….by the sword.

We should not be particularly proud or triumphant about this. Instead, we should be soberly giving thanks for having rid ourselves of an implacable enemy. An enemy who’s twisted use of religion caused much death and misery all over the world in general, and to the world of Islam in particular. He dishonored not only his name and family, but that religion besides, one to which he so ostentatiously claimed devotion.

Nor should we become complacent from our successfully hunting him down. There remain a number of his adherents still at large, several of which are perhaps even more dangerous to the peace of the world than he was. This particular snake, al Qaeda, much like the Hydra, has more than one head. We will have our hands full trying to decapitate them all.

Well, the attached cartoon was made shortly after 9/11 when we charged into Afghanistan to knock off his protective Taliban hosts, and with revengeful blood in our eyes to seek him out. It summed up a message we were sending to the rest of the Islamic world. Whether they’ve gotten that message or not….is an open question.

Nevertheless, sometimes there comes a right end….and Bin Laden has been given it.
