AN AMERICAN POT CALLING EUROPEAN KETTLES BLACK
(….or just another one of those weird Polish jokes)

Treasury Secretary Geistner’s presence at the recent European central bankers’ conference in Poland, and his apparently lecturing stance about their handling of the EURO’s debt crisis….didn’t go over too well.

Who can blame them?

Such a performance was akin to having an American pot calling European kettles black. Then again, with his offer to have America contribute to yet another “bail out” fund, with a load of fully depreciated greenbacks, perhaps they dismissed it all as their hosts just pulling another one of those weird Polish jokes.

Well, perhaps the following bit of doggerel verse can help put it all in proper perspective:

GLOBAL INTERDEPENDENCIES
EURO….EURO… here you are,
A once and future monetary star, Now just another dim-bulb of light,
And truly a very sorry sight.
But never worry, never fear,
The good old dollar is still here,
Ready with green to cover your back,
Even though worth less than what you lack.
So let’s all hope you’ll muddle through, ‘Cause if you don’t we’ll be there with you,
Sharing a dumpster less than grand, Waiting vainly for China to lend us a hand.
Well, if we may be so bold, Perhaps now’s the time to back our debts with gold,
But if that prospect makes you shiver, May we suggest something else called….silver?
