MAQUILLA D’ORO…AMERICAN STYLE
(…here by day…back there by night…)
Neither the President nor the Congress seem able or are prepared to try and resolve the problem of the current flood of illegals coming from south of our border with Mexico.
The President just wants to throw money at the problem (taxpayers’ money…not his). The Congress just wants to continue stalling about it, hoping it will all go away before November’s mid-term elections. Meanwhile…the flood keeps flowing in upon us.
Well, since both appear incapable of displaying any kind of –intelligent design – about this or anything else, perhaps this taxpaying voter’s idea to fix the problem is as good as anything they’re doing about it…and maybe even profitably besides…instead of further expanding our National Debt load. Here it is:
- Let’s set up the equivalent of the Mexican – Maquilla D’oro – on our side of the border between it and California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.
- Let’s have American companies set up distribution and production facilities in those designated areas all along the border. These would be special areas sealed off from the rest of our country. Homeland Security would be charged with assuring that, while the INS, would be responsible for the issuing of day passes to migrants hired by those companies to work at their facilities. That is, they could enter those areas for the day to do their jobs, but would have to leave again at the end of their shifts.
The benefits of such an approach are:
- We contain the flood of illegals at the border instead of having them dispersed all over the country.
- The American companies involved get access to cheap foreign labor, but, are now able to truthfully label their products as – Made in America –
- Most of the costs are born by the companies involved…not the taxpayers.
- The Administration can claim it has created thousands of new jobs (only for illegals of course, but why quibble).
- It fully secures our border with Mexico since none of the illegals need to go further than those facilities in those areas, thereby reducing the stresses and strains on the Border Patrol’s manpower and resources to do it.
- It makes America look more “humane” since it would alleviate the illegals poverty, without the negative PR of having to deport them.
Well, this may sound like a cockamaimee solution to use a…maquilla d’oro…American style, where they’re here by day…back there at night, but until our glorious leaders come up with a better one…it works for me!
