IT’S BACK…AND SOON TO BE A BIGGER GORILLA THAN EVER
(…and 800 pounds will no longer properly describe it…)
While all our political dipsticks in Washington have been busy screwing around with the taxpayers, with Obamacare, Tax Reform, Immigration Reform, Fiscal Reform, and other critical issues, a quiet revolution has been going on in the oil and gas industry. A revolution in terms of applying new technologies to locate, and extract those natural resources.
As a result, over the past decade America has slowly but steadily increased its domestic production of these energy commodities, to the point where, last year, it surpassed Russia as the world’s largest producer, and now, this year, produced more than it actually imported, and even –exporting- some of that production.
America is thus poised to once again become a primary producer and exporter of energy commodities. In very short order, not only will its imports dwindle to near zero, its exports of these vital commodities will help it become a major player in the international markets for them, giving it even greater leverage and stronger “soft power” in its geopolitical influence. Thus, while the last decade projected an image of a declining superpower, an 800 pound gorilla past its prime, these developments mean…it’s back…and soon, to be a bigger gorilla than ever…and 800 pounds will no longer properly describe it. One of the biggest collateral impacts of that being its ability to produce electricity at a much cheaper cost than in either Europe or Asia which, in turn, will then cause a resurgence of its industrial output here rather than overseas. The positive end-ripple effect of that, of course, being more jobs and greater economic activity; and thus, a greater economic super-power than before.
Actually it should be viewed with a much broader perspective than that, if we consider the totality of what can be produced from Alaska to Mexico. The combined resources of oil and gas of Canada, America, and Mexico, if properly combined, developed, and coordinated, could well out-do those of OPEC.
The only problem inhibiting a more rapid development of these potentials, however, is that herd of politicos we’ve allowed to grow fat over the years. Somehow getting term limits established, to limit their allotted time to feed at the trough of “public service” is about the only way to get them out of the way of such progress and a prosperous future. If that’s what we want for ourselves and our children’s children, it’s time to replace them, regardless of party.
