THIS BOSTON MASSACRE…
(…is of greater infamy)
We seem to be living in an era of sick minds. Minds so twisted and warped they think indiscriminate mayhem and slaughter are a valid means of self-expression.
This Boston massacre is of greater infamy than the original one that helped spark our Revolution. At least, on that occasion, there was a somewhat rational context for it… nervous military troops, inadequately led, facing a hostile crowd seemingly intent on assaulting them…a situation which ultimately exploded in everybody’s face when someone made the wrong move. Not in this instance.
While we still don’t know the –who – or –why- involved with this terrible act, the way it was done, and from reports of finding other similar explosive devices fortunately disarmed before they too could add to the carnage, it definitely suggests this event was an act of terrorism. Whether homegrown or otherwise, doesn’t really matter. Those involved in it deserve the label – terrorist-.
Hopefully, when the parties involved are found out and apprehended, the Patriot Act will finally have a useful application, by trying them before a Military Tribunal, and summarily dealt with, rather than allowing them the normal niceties of our judicial system. After all, when faced with a rabid dog, one doesn’t try to use the –Joan Rivers – approach (can we talk?). One just shoots it out of hand, putting it out of its misery, protecting everyone else in the process.
Personally, however, for such as these, I’d much prefer the French medieval – Oubliette – method, as a more appropriate disposition for such criminals. It was simplicity itself…the convicted criminal was literally dropped down the shaft of dry well. The fall not being deep enough to kill him outright, it just left him broken, without food, water, or light, in total darkness, and a slow lingering death. Meanwhile, the paving stones were replaced over it…and forgotten about (hence the name).
Unfortunately, our constitutional prohibition against cruel and unusual punishments, just wouldn’t allow it. Alas!
