CRIME AND PUNISHMENT USA
(… to get away with murder just snitch…part time… for the FBI)

James “Whitey” Bolger was finally convicted in a Federal Court in Boston last week. He was found guilty of 17 of the 19 charges against him…including murder.

He will probably spend the remainder of his life in a Club Fed facility, getting three hots and a cot, plus free medical care…all courtesy of the taxpayers…till he croaks. Not a bad deal for a bad-boy mobster who, after so many years of rampaging in Boston, then giving the Bureau a merry chase for a decade or so, finally managed to get himself caught.

Life without parole, several times over, seems a small price to pay for decades of wild living, ruthless racketeering, and violent murder (even if by proxy) because whatever “Whitey” ordered to be done…it was always…done.

At some point in his criminal career, he hit upon the idea of gaming the system by volunteering as a part time FBI snitch, mainly as a means of getting rid of any rivals he wasn’t in a position to deal with directly. A neat bit of business which let him off the hook for some of his own criminal activities as the Federales paid for his “services” by turning a blind eye on those activities. Yes, when it comes to crime and punishment, USA, you can literally get away with murder…just snitch…part time…for the FBI.

The sad thing of course is that while the families of his victims may only get a small consolation from these results, James “Whitey” Bolger will now live out his life amidst the modest comforts of a Club Fed facility, no doubt enjoying criminal rock-star celebrity as well; and, we can be sure, having enterprising media types clamoring for exclusive interviews, proposing book deals, and possibly even movie ones besides. Who knows, he could end up with a multi-million dollar estate as his legacy from all that. Go figure!

Well, if this is “justice” for the likes of Whitey Bolger here in America, I’m for bringing back the Medieval French version of the – Oubliette – . That…would be closer to the meaning of the term.
