WHATEVER ELSE HE MAY BE…AT LEAST HE’S NOT A HYPOCRITE…
(…unlike those big brand names stampeding for the exits purely for PR/CYA reasons)
Whatever else he may be, Donald Trump is not a hypocrite…unlike those big brand names stampeding for the exits purely for PR/CYA reasons…because of his recent public comments about Mexicans illegally in this country.
The one saving grace about his disgraceful performance is that it has brought the illegal alien presence in this country into the open where it will no longer be possible to ignore it…or bury it…under euphemisms such as “undocumented”, and meaningless clichés such as ” we’re a nation of immigrants”…about the issue. Every candidate for the upcoming presidential election in 2016 will now be forced to take a clear position about it.
It was unfortunate Mr. Trump picked on Mexicans to highlight the issue just because their country’s border is just south of ours. Mexico is not the only source of this problem, even if the bulk of those coming here illegally pass through its border with us. There are many more from many other countries who are part of that flow also, which is why we’ve characterized his outburst as just another of those dumbass campaigning ploys for pandering to a minor segment of the electorate.
The real source of our problems with the immigration issue is because too many of our elected officials, media, and others, don’t’ make a clear distinction between those who do come here legally, and those that don’t. Thus, by not making that clear distinction between these…they are not being honest about the issue.
Those who come here legally are true “immigrants”, as are those who have been granted asylum here as refugees…and they should be welcomed as such. But those that sneak into this country instead, in violation of our laws against it, or, who come here legally as “visitors”, only to intentionally disappear into the woodwork to stay here illegally…are are simply cheaters…gaming the system…not “immigrants”.
The main reason we have such an accrued mass of these cheaters in this country today is because for the past number of decades too many of our local, state, and federal, elected officials have deliberately turned a blind eye to their presence here, by not seriously enforcing our laws against it, or else, have openly declared their refusal to support such enforcement on the grounds that they are offering “sanctuary”…all of that in blatant violation of their oaths of office. Even in the face of the recent senseless murder of a young woman in San Francisco, by a convicted felon, and five times deported for illegal entry here, its Mayor and a number of its Supervisors are still being adamant about their “sanctuary” position. One can only speculate as to their real motives for doing so.
On several previous occasions we’ve outlined what we believe would be a rational way to deal with the situation by a) streamlining and making the process of legal immigration less difficult, and b) at the same time, making it very difficult for those attempting to sneak into this country. We believe that one of our original propositions on how to handle those who come here illegally could resolve the problem almost overnight. Here’s how:
- Congress should authorize and provide funding for the INS to contract with any properly licensed Bail Bond enterprises in our various states, allowing it to pay a specified “bounty” for each illegal they deliver to the INS for deportation.
- Since Bail Bond enterprises have both the standing at law in all states, and the expertise to track down anyone, wherever they may be in the country, the odds are these would soon have most illegals rounded up, thereby steadily reducing the backlog of their numbers here; and, because of the numbers involved, that would make the Bail Bond business a growth industry (offering plenty of employment opportunities with great job security).
- Require that a percentage of that bounty paid for such illegals be shared with senior citizens acting as CIs (confidential informants) for those Bail Bond contractors. This would provide participating senior citizens with a steady supplementary addition to their retirement income, while providing the Bail Bond bounty hunters a very wide and effective network of eyes and ears, in support of their searches.
- There would be no need for up-front budget allocations beyond the bounty funds because the INS would only have to pay upon physical delivery of such individuals into its custody.
The only drawback we foresee to this approach is that the Bail Bond hunters and their senior citizen CIs would be so much more effective than any INS/ICE effort… the INS would soon be swamped and unable to process such a volume of people through its currently inadequate detention facilities. So, perhaps, things might work better if the Bail Bond people were just authorized to transport their catches directly to the nearest border crossing point, hand these over to the authorities on the other side of it, then turn in their receipts for these to the INS to receive their checks…for services rendered.
Of course, that might not set too well with our friends both north and south of our borders, but then, perhaps by paying them to handle that outflow it might still make the process a win-win for all concerned.
