A PLAGUE OF ANARCHIC SOCIOPATHIC MINDSETS
(…from induced insanities for violence)
The latest mass-killing incident in Oregon, along with the three other gun-violence situations, hard on the heels of that one, suggests we’re facing a plague of anarchic sociopathic mindsets…from induced insanities for violence.
We say…induced…because there seems to be a consistent pattern to these kinds of horrific events, that is, we have evolved a cultural matrix over the past couple of generations which condones the idea that…grabbing and using a gun while in a blind rage about something, and slaughtering at random anyone who happens to be available as a target for such rages, is an acceptable way to vent whatever is bothering us. Aggravating that mindset further is our modern-day fixation with achieving “celebrity”…by any means… even if that means mindlessly murdering complete strangers, as an insane, twisted, expression of me-ism.
Most of the perpetrators of such horrors are almost entirely young adult males who, for a variety of reasons, have similar backgrounds of dysfunctional family situations, bullying and other abuses, social inadequacies of one kind or another, peer and other rejections, etc., all accumulated in a massive sense of failure and non-worth, often compounded by both drug abuse or baleful religious or other ideological extremist influences. In short, such individuals no longer have any kind of moral compass in their lives.
The problem is that whenever such mass killings occur everyone immediately focuses on the instrument used…the gun…rather than the…cause…and how we might better develop ways and means to detect such dangerous potentials and prevent them. More gun controls of one kind or another are only part of the solution to this societal problem. What we need is a more holistic approach so we can come up with better preventive means to avoid such tragedies.
The problem of course is how to predict when such individuals have reached, or are reaching, emotional “critical mass”, so to speak, and what are the triggers that set off their explosive killing rampages. What kinds of “red flags” might be used as justifiable cause for intervention to nullify such explosions…without violating any constitutional rights?
There are no easy answers to such questions, but knee-jerk reactions about gun availability for such individuals won’t resolve the issue.
