SIC SEMPER TYRANNUS
(that’s the long and short of it)
The ongoing events throughout the Middle East, and particularly now in Libya, clearly shows the ultimate fate of any oppressive tyrannical regime. Like Humpty Dumpty, sooner or later, it has a great fall. That’s the long and the short of it.
In Libya’s case it seems to be more a case of the Mad Hatter going completely off his rocker, ready to drown the country in blood, rather than give up his position and power. One could only hope his blood would be the first to be spilt but, alas, it hasn’t worked out that way, and only the people’s blood seems to be flowing instead of his.
Well, other delusional tyrants have met bad ends. Hitler, in Berlin, a suicide, with his body doused with gasoline and burned like yesterday’s trash. Mussolini, shot, and hung by his heels like a slaughtered hog. The Shah of Iran, hounded into exile. Ceacescu, of Romania, put against a prison wall, and shot down like a mad dog. Marcos, run out of the Philippines. Saddam Hussein, and his two twisted sons. The list is a long one.
Most such regimes are hollow shells. There is no substance to them, no depth of purpose, beyond having power, stealing everything they can while in power, and slaughtering anyone who objects about it. But there comes a time when even such exercises of fear and terror, are no longer fearsome or terror-striking, and at that point, regardless of the means at their disposal, no matter how many mercenaries and thugs they may have on their payrolls, their people’s rage overwhelms them with an explosive force….with a bloody chaotic reckoning..
Well, perhaps the best thing that could happen for Libya, would be that Kadaffi’s rank and file supporters, seeing the writing on the wall, abandon him. And rather than being summarily disposed of, he, with his fanciful costumes, and tent, are hustled away into some remote corner of Libya’s deserts, and there left to rot, like some insane T-Rex, within the confines of a desert Jurassic Park, for what remains of his useless life.
