THE CLAMORS OF INTERMPERATE VOICES AND DISTEMPERED MINDS…
(…which simply ignite these into mindless disunity and vicious violence)
The tragic events of Charlottesville, Virginia, are the inevitable outcomes that come from the clamors of intemperate voices and distempered minds…which simply ignite these into mindless disunity and vicious violence.
We are, and have always been, a polyglot nation, so the notion that we should be anything otherwise is a virulent fantasy which is clearly un-American…and thus needs to be expunged from our societal matrix…if we are to remain…American.
Everyone involved in this disgusting episode, from the President on down to all those who brought it about, bears responsibility for the death and injuries which were its outcome.
Misguided attempts to force the eradication of all monuments and symbols of the Confederacy from public view are simply attempts to deny the reality of that history, and do nothing to help resolve the residues from the terrible history of that conflict which nearly destroyed our nation. Worse yet, they just goad and provide those who oppose such efforts, with an excuse to engage in loud outcries of repulsive hate-speech and viciously violent acts drawn directly from the playbook of the Hitlerian NAZI regime. Thus, neither contribute anything useful to resolve whatever problems we have today with issues about race and equality of access to education or economic and social mobility.
We would suggest therefor that both reconsider their viewpoints to mutually find more constructive perspectives. That is, those who view such Confederate monuments offensive to today’s sensibilities might instead consider these, and their Union counterparts, as stark instructive reminders of what happens when we allow personal antipathies, economic, and political interests, to overcome the ideal of our pledge of allegiance…one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
As for all those who choose an extreme adaptation of the Hitlerian ideology to maintain the fantasy of white supremacy, driven by a fear that they may soon become just another “minority” in our country, perhaps they should just consider embracing that eventuality since, once they are a “minority”, they will then be able to agitate and demand the same benefits and considerations for preference as any other “minority.”, and thus no more no less “equal” than any of those others. With everyone a “minority” there then would be no need to seek for “supremacy”, and the American egalitarian ideal…would be achieved.
Nevertheless, as we’ve often pointed out before, perhaps the time has come for all of us to individually and collectively spend more effort and time to truly be part of “unum” with much less emphasis on trying to be part of “pluribus.” In short, to reset our mindsets that we are all…Americans…first…and anything else… second.
If we don’t…we may soon not be able to call ourselves “American” much longer.
