THE SYRIAN TEMPEST RAGES ON….
(…and the Ayatollahs of Iran must be getting more nervous by the hour)

The international community continues with its impotent cries of outrage at the Assad regime’s ruthless application of blunt-force trauma against its protesting people, just so it  can retain its hold on power.

Yet, despite the Security Council vetoes of those two stalwarts of authoritarian “democracy”, Russia and China, blocking any further sanctions against it, the UN General Assembly reacted to that non-action, with a mass protest of its own against those vetoes, by voting overwhelmingly for a non-binding resolution calling on the Assad regime to cease and desist its strong-arm tactics, step aside, and relinquish its hold on power (the irony of that being this was a Saudi Arabia and Qatar led initiative).

While unprecedented in UN history, such a resolution has about as much effect as having a pack of attack Chihuahuas swarming around your ankles and feet….all yap….but with no real bites. If any of those members who voted for that resolution really were serious about it they would immediately follow up on that resolution by declaring the Assad regime was no longer the legitimate government of Syria and its people, and have each member sever all diplomatic recognition and ties with it. Now, that, would be real and meaningful concerted action, sending a message to all such regimes….behave….or be declared….outlaw.

Of course, since the Assad regime and its Alawite/Ba’athist cohorts have nowhere to run to for asylum, it will just merrily go on with its murderous application of its version of law and order, to the bitter end, because they now have no other choice.

Thus the Syrian tempest rages on….and the Ayatollahs of Iran must be getting more nervous by the hour.
