A TREASURE TROVE OF INSIGHTS
(…from our archives of 1976)

Long before we began producing this Chronicle series, shortly after having returned from an extended period of expatriate living and working under a variety of free-wheeling and wide-open dictatorships, we landed in Hawaii to find ourselves plunked down smack in the middle of an over-regulated democracy where everything that wasn’t forbidden…was strictly compulsory…and so we became confused as hell from a reverse form of “culture shock.”

In all the years since that time nothing much has changed. Only some of the forms, styles, and euphemisms have and in the way we, the people, deal with the matrix of governance lording it over our pursuits of life, liberty, and erstwhile happiness.

Given the current state of disunity and division which exists today in our society, we think the items we’re attaching here may have some value. They’re from a treasure trove of insights about our politics found among our archives of 1976…nearly half a century ago! Since we’re coming on to another a midterm election cycle, and with all the divisiveness currently prevailing, we think these are not only appropriate but relevant as well.
