CALIFORNIA PUTS A TRIUMVIRATE IN CHARGE
(Moonbeam Brown, Nuisance Newsom, and Never-Say-Die Harris)

Once again, the voters of California have proven that “democracy” let’s folks vote dumb….as well as smart.

To expect this trio to come up with anything effective for fixing this state’s parlous condition is much like thinking that, tomorrow, the sun will rise in the west instead of in the east. And the reason for thinking so is this: If termed out Arnold Terminator was unable to coral the state’s legislature into fixing it, despite applying his extremely innovative hammering skills, California’s voters are in for a great let-down of expectations when this crew goes to work.

Sorry, California, your real problem is not, and has never really been, with any particular Governor. The real problem has always been with the Legislature. A more politically self-serving and spendthrift mob (besides our glorious Congress, that is) would be hard to find anywhere else. Organizing fleas to perform an effective circus, at minimal cost….would be easier.

Nevertheless, Moonbeam Brown, appears to have gotten fiscal religion in his old age, and is now making sounds of trying to do something about the state’s financial mess. If that’s for real, more power to him. The odds aren’t very promising, but, he has been through this kind of fandango with the Legislature before, so he might better know how to outmaneuver it, to accomplish something useful.

His big ace in the hole, however, is his age. He’s not likely to be running for office again after this gig, so none of the big union and other interests who’ve backed him so far, will have any kind of leverage to politically blackmail him into doing what they want, rather than what the State needs. Whether Nuisance Newsom will be of any help in that exercise remains to be seen. The last thing Sacramento’s political zoo really needs is another clown act to gum up the works (San Francisco can vouch for that).

As for Never-Say-Die Harris, potential death row residents don’t have much to worry about. She’s never seen a death penalty deal she ever liked. So cop-killers, child rapists and killers, should be able to rest easy during her tenure.

Lots of luck, California….you’re going to need it.
