A CREW ON A SHIP OF FOOLS
(still arguing about whether to raise the bridge or lower the water)
The President and the Congress continue to play political chicken with each other about the debt ceiling issue. In this case it’s still the old argument about whether to raise the bridge or lower the water.
The problem is that at the rate they’re going at it the clock may run out on them before any kind of meaningful compromise might be cobbled together. But since they’ve frittered away so much time arguing about that, we no longer have the luxury of deciding which way to go. We’re stuck with having to do a little bit of both. It’s the only way out of this mess.
As far the Democrats claim they’re willing to sign a binding pledge to reduce spending later, if the debt limit is raised now, has as much credibility as a junkie’s promise to take the cure and get clean and sober….if only we’ll give him just one more fix. The Republicans, meanwhile, keep growling about making more spending cuts now, and consider raising the debt limit later on. Neither of them thus displaying any kind of common sense on the issue.
Either way, neither are doing us any favors, and all we’re left with is the motto of our currency – IN GOD WE TRUST – except now we’re like everyone else….and have to pay cash!
