LIBYA
(….so long, Gaddafi….it’s not been good to know ya….)
Gaddafi is dead and gone. The how and why of it really doesn’t matter because it’s not the first time a tyrant like him has met summary justice. Under revolutionary conditions that’s usually an inevitable outcome. Nor is it likely to be the last.
As long as he, and other members of his family and close associates, was on the loose the Libyan people had little chance of achieving a positive outcome to their revolt against his regime. Now that he and most of those others are either also gone or in custody(to probably await a similar fate), they now have at least a fighting chance to pick up the pieces of their country to put it back into some semblance of a democratically organized and civilized nation. It won’t be easy, and no one really knows how it will all work out, but at least he and his crew won’t be cluttering up the works with the tedious need to go through a long drawn out show trial process, a process that might prevent their being able to unify their people.
So international calls for “investigation” into how Gaddafi met his end are misguided, to say the least. The Libyan people have more critical matters to worry about. Gaddafi is dead. Let it be a cautionary tale to other would-be “Supremos”, to give them pause before they decide to put the clamps on their people.
Meanwhile, let’s not waste anyone’s time and energy with legalistic nitpicking about how he died. Let’s just say….so long, Gaddafi….it’s not been good to know ya…
