HOW TO SHOOT YOURSELF IN THE POLITICAL FOOT
(pander to one voting demographic….while pissing off a bunch of others in the process)

The timing of the President’s recent decision to ease off on deportation of people who were brought here illegally by their parents as infants or small children, and are now either teenagers or young adults who’ve never known any other place or country but the USA, smacks of a political ploy to garner more Hispanic votes for himself.

And no matter how hard his PR and campaign minions try to spin it, it is obviously a politically motivated move on his part. It’s that tight a race, so this kind of trolling for any and every possible source of votes for November is an indication of how nervous his backers are about not getting him re-elected.

As I see it, however, the Obama Campaign may have shot itself in the political foot. Pandering to one voting demographic….may have pissed off a bunch of others in the process, with the net result being….some pain….with little gain. Still, the President may actually have made this move not so much for re-election purposes as to goose the Congress to start thinking about – Immigration Reform- again. Something neither party had the balls to face last time around.

These types of band-aid solutions don’t really address the fundamentals of our immigration problems. The reason we have such problems is because almost every administration (of either party) for the past number of decades has failed to do two things. That is, securing the borders, and, enforcing existing laws against people who come and stay here illegally.

Worse yet, is the rampant dishonesty almost every elected official from city level to those glorious halls of venality in Washington has displayed about this issue. I say –dishonest – because almost all of them make no clear distinction between a legal immigrant….and an illegal….lumping them collectively under the generic label of “immigrant”. And to all those elected officials who so piously swear their oaths of office (and then ignore them when it comes to enforcing the laws they’ve sworn to uphold), we must also add all those so-called “advocates” for “immigrant rights” who’ve built up an entire cottage industry to help anyone, whether legal or illegal, to game the system. The hypocrisy of it all is beyond belief!

Well, until both parties quit their partisan posturing on this subject nothing will ever be done to reform or fix our illegal immigrant problem. As a tax-paying voter neither party is gaining points with me with these kinds of political maneuvers.
