HEADED FOR THE DOWNLOAD                                                                                                 (….though for the Assad mob most would prefer…CTRL-ALT-DELETE)

After more than sixteen months of assault and carnage against its own people, Assad’s Ba’athist regime seems headed for the download. It can’t happen soon enough for the rest of the civilized world (Russia and China excepted, of course), which would much prefer….CTRL-ALT-DELETE…as the terminating solution for it.

Meanwhile, the world’s chorus of diplomatic eunuchs, ably conducted by Kofi Anan, continues with its monotonous drone of – Sanctions! Sanctions! Sanctions! -.Neither he nor they have ever heard of – CRTL-ALT-DELETE – or, probably, wouldn’t have either the moral courage or the knowledge of how to press such buttons to end it all. Besides, what’s a few thousands more dead and mangled Syrian civilians anyway? To more actively engage against it would be intruding on a rogue government’s “sovereignty”, so, better to let such a vicious carousel to keep on swirling round and round until all of its riders fall off of it, instead.

But the good old International Red Cross has now openly declared (what common sense knew and understood, but wouldn’t admit publicly) what ‘s been happening in Syria is nothing less than….civil war. One can’t help but wonder how no one else was able to figure that out. Bravo, Red Cross! Its declaration may now awaken those grand somnambulists of the International Tribunal at the Hague to formally indict the Assad regime and all of its minions as war criminals, and subject to arrest and being hauled before it for trial.

Frankly, given today’s realities on the ground in Syria, which now includes heavy fighting and bombings right on Assad’s home turf of Damascus, the odds of there being such “civilized” formalities to resolve the situation there….are very slim indeed.

The world is more likely to see a progressively accelerating collapse of the Assad power base, with increasing defections(much like rats leaving a sinking ship), and summary street justice and executions of any and all of the regime’s members the opposition can hunt down, with not much quarter given. It will be the old adage….of reaping what has been sown, and the Assad regime has certainly earned what it will reap. The big question now isn’t how or in what way it will end. Its fate has already been defined, much like Karma. It’s only a matter of how quickly that might all come about.

But the overriding question for the Syrian people is, and will be, after ridding themselves of the Assad regime….what will they create to replace it?
