OUR AMERICAN MIDDLE CLASS
(…stuck in Purgatory between Heaven and Hell)

Everyone keeps on yapping about our good old American Middle Class, as if it were some kind of much abused, overly taxed, and sacred icon of our society. Perhaps that’s all true.

But a more apt and much more accurate description of its condition today would be to say it is actually more like – Purgatory -…stuck and drifting aimlessly between an out of reach – Heaven- of extreme wealth, and the – Hell – of an extreme poverty, snapping at its heels like a ravenous wolf.

If my theological memory is correct -Purgatory- has an indefinite time frame from as long as infinity to just a brief transition…to somewhere else…thus, there’s no way of knowing how or when it could end…either way.

Such a condition does nothing therefore to re-develop a strong and dynamic –Middle Class- for our country. And as history has often shown, without such, no society can long exist as a stable and prosperous one. Worse yet, without one, society ultimately ends up with either of those extremes, thereby producing bloodbaths of the likes of the Guillotine…or tyrannies of Gulags of one kind or another. It has ever been thus.

Unfortunately for us, our career politicos from both parties continue to play the very dangerous game of class-warfare-mongering for political advantage, instead of doing everything possible to revive what’s left of the former multi-tiered middle class matrix all of us claimed to be a part. And the best means for doing so is for them to immediately dump those class-driven tax ideologies and policies, by replacing these with a new more broadly based and equitable…Flat-Tax-On-Gross- Income…code instead, thereby, removing most of those uncertainties about our future. And as we all know, it is those uncertainties that inhibit strong economic activity and steady growth in GDP, without which government revenue needs…can never be met.

So, Mr. President, Ladies and Gentlemen of our Congress…kindly knock off your political maneuverings, and start helping us out of this – Purgatory – for even a slimmest chance of reaching that –Heaven-, rather than falling down into the certain abyss of that – Hell-.
