STATE LEGISLATORS
(going AWOL and failing in their duty)

Democrat state legislators in Wisconsin and Indiana have deliberately disappeared themselves so as to avoid having to vote on a proposed bill they do not approve of.

 In a childish exercise of bad faith with the voters who elected them, they have chosen to go AWOL, and fail in their duty. No matter how one might think about it, it is as sorry an example of –breach of contract – by elected officials in recent times. There should be consequences for such arrogant disrespect of taxpaying voters.

 Such extremes of partisanship clearly show how corrupt our political system has become. These legislators have gone AWOL, not for reasons of principle, but, just to placate the vested union interests that contributed to their election campaigns. If any of them had personal integrity, they would have stayed put, and publicly cast their votes against the legislation proposed by Wisconsin’s governor, and their Republican opponents in the legislature. Instead they’ve taken the coward’s way out, thinking it to be a clever way to block any action on what they don’t like. So much for the sincerity of their belief in the democratic process.

 The voters of Wisconsin, and any other state with similar problems, should demand enactment of a special law prohibiting any legislator from deliberately going AWOL, just to avoid having to vote on something that might affect their political career. And the best possible penalties for that might be a hefty fine for each day they are absent from their office, and if that absence extends for more than ten days, they would be considered as having abandoned their office, thus declared removed from it, and a Governor could appoint someone to replace them, for the remainder of their term. Further, any legislator thus removed from office, would be barred from any public office for ten years.

Well, if the taxpaying voters of Wisconsin, or any other state, for that matter, don’t call for penalties of this kind for such bad faith behavior by their legislators….they deserve everything they aren’t getting.
