PLAYING KICK-THE-CAN WITH OUT FUTURE
(passing the buck to another – Super Committee)

They’ve done it again!

After screwing around for over six months no one in Washington has come up with anything to fix our fiscal problems. They’re playing kick-the-can with our future, passing the buck to another “Super Committee” to do it.

The only reason any kind of so-called compromise bill was passed was because none of them wanted to be held responsible for any default on our debt, and, they had run out the count down on that clock because of the political end games they’d been playing all that time with each other, just to be maneuvering for political advantage in 2012.

What’s particularly galling is the blatant hypocrisy so many of them displayed as they expounded about how the rich aren’t paying their fair share, how too many well-off folks could do a whole lot more of belt-tightening and sacrificing, instead of putting the load on the middle class and the elderly….etc., etc., etc..(of course, the only “rich” folks I know are all in Congress….and since these are the same ones who’ve been writing the tax code…. guess who’s been benefitting).

From the President on down, they’ve been playing that tune, over, and over, and over again. But I’ve yet to hear any one of them, not a one, propose to voluntarily enact a 10% cut in their pay and allowances for the next 5 years, as their contribution of “sacrifice” for the cause.

Mr. President, and all you members of Congress, if you insist on playing that class warfare card, at least have the decency to show us leadership-by-example when calling for sacrifice and belt-tightening. You can’t expect us to make do with lean cuisine and swallow your class warfare nonsense, while you continue to live fat….at the taxpayers’ expense.

Well, let’s hope the taxpaying voters of this country will remember to teach them a lesson, comes November, 2012. From the President on down they have all failed us miserably. Neither Democrats nor Republicans are blameless in this sorry episode, and both parties should be made to pay for that. So will the voters remember any of this on that distant November? If history is any indicator….not very likely, proving yet again that our style of “democracy” has folks voting mostly dumb but rarely….smart.
