A DANGEROUS COMBINATION
(….of self-appointed vigilantism and stupidity)

The recent killing of a seventeen year old young man, Trayvon Martin, near Sanford, Florida, by a so-called neighborhood “watch” busybody, is an extreme example of what can only be described as a dangerous combination of self-appointed vigilantism and stupidity.

The fact that Sanford is not a “low-rent” neighborhood, since it’s a gated community, and, that the young man in question was visiting a parent living there, should have been enough to preclude such a tragedy. But, he was a teenager, wearing a “hoodie”….and…was black. So the vigilant watcher automatically determined that made the kid a suspicious person of interest. How that should be is hard to figure.

Reportedly on his way from his father’s place to a nearby convenience store, what could there have been in his demeanor to support such suspicion? We don’t know, except that the watcher followed him in his truck,  called 911 to report his “suspicious” presence, only to be told to back off and let the police handle it.

What happened next, and how things came to a physical confrontation between this young man and his killer has yet to be explained. Obviously the police don’t seem to have been very concerned that a young man was dead on the ground, by the time they got there, with his killer standing there claiming self-defense as his dubious excuse for it. So the question is…why?

The whole thing smells rotten, and no amount of PR jabbering by the Sanford authorities will clear the stink of it until a complete disclosure of the details leading up to that killing is made, and the killer, properly made to answer for it by due process….in court.

One would hate to think that why this has yet to be done is because uninhibited racism still exists in Sanford, Florida.
