AN INTRIGUING PRIVATE EFFORT…
(to help others help themselves)
Every now and then we come across something which is both intriguing and inspiring as well.
In this instance we’re referring to a recently established private effort to help others help themselves. That is, a few veterans, each with their own disabilities from their service for this country of ours, and mostly surviving from the disability pensions they receive for that, took it upon themselves to establish a pilot project to show how farming (of one kind or another), might help some individuals to be better able to sustain themselves as adults even if they are afflicted with –AUTISM-.
It’s an intriguing concept because, while there are all sorts of entities and programs dedicated to helping children with that condition, there are very, very, few aimed at helping autistic adults to become more self-sufficient rather than being stuck in a lifetime of dependency. Granted not all such individuals are capable of the functional level required for such work, but based on the results they’ve achieved so far with their first star pupil, it strongly suggests that they’re on the right track and that the idea should work with other autistic adults as well. If so then what these veterans are attempting is truly inspirational because it could provide hope to many families who have an adult member with autism.
So recently they established a non-profit 501(c)(3)organization registered in Nevada, naming it: The Autistic Farmers of America(AFOA). We like the sound of that because it says it all…in very few words…to describe what it’s all about.
While we’ve never directly solicited support for any non-profit effort on this site before, in this instance we feel that what these veterans are doing merits our doing so. If you care to find out more about the AFOA, here is the direct link to its own web site:

We think you’ll be properly impressed. If so, then please contribute what you can to it to help it grow.
